Son Heung-Min Announces Spurs Exit After a Decade of Glory – Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-Min has officially announced that he will be leaving the club this summer, bringing an end to a decade-long journey filled with unforgettable moments and historic milestones.
The emotional announcement came during a press conference in Seoul on Saturday morning, ahead of Spurs’ pre-season clash with Newcastle United.
“Before we begin, I want to share that I’ve decided to leave the Club this summer,” said Son. “It’s been an incredibly tough decision—maybe the hardest I’ve ever made in my career. But after ten amazing years, I feel I need a new environment, something that can challenge me in a different way.”
Son, who joined Tottenham in August 2015 at just 23 years old, reflected on his journey with heartfelt gratitude. “I came here as a young man, and I leave feeling like I’ve grown so much—both as a player and as a person. I’m proud of everything I’ve done with this club.”
He also extended a heartfelt message to supporters: “Thank you to all the Spurs fans for the endless love. I hope this is the right time to say goodbye, and I hope everyone can understand and respect that decision.”
New Spurs head coach Thomas Frank, who sat beside Son at the press conference, expressed his admiration. “Personally, I would have loved to work with this fantastic player and human being. He’s a true Spurs legend, one of the greatest ever to play in the Premier League. But timing is never easy—and for him, this might be the perfect moment to bow out on a high.”
During his time at Tottenham, Son amassed 173 goals, placing him fifth on the club’s all-time scoring list. In May, he marked his 10th anniversary by lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy—a fitting high note to close his remarkable tenure.
Son was also the recipient of the 2020 FIFA Puskás Award for his incredible solo goal against Burnley and claimed the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021/22 season, netting 23 goals and helping the team return to Champions League action.
Having worn the captain’s armband with pride, Son becomes one of just 13 captains in Spurs history to lift a trophy, cementing his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.
